Originally from the Austin scene that spawned such kindred spirits as the Butthole Surfers and Scratch Acid. This group began in 1986 with 2 drummers, guitar and bass. Most probably influenced by english groups like Section 25, Joy Division and Josef K but making it very american. This band was in the head space as contemporaries Sonic Youth, Swans, and Scratch Acid.Releases on Homestead Records include Reality Bath, Mind Furnace, Stress City, Cloud Machine EP, and Secret Language 7". Nice Strong Arm's legacy includes the vaunted harmonic and pentatonic "Asian"/ sitar-like style indie guitar playing since reproduced by bands such as Polvo & Trumans Water.
I discovered this record years ago at a college radio station and have always loved its vibe. It reminds me of the old Austin, Texas 80s scene which is sadly gone. This record came out 20 years ago which is hard to believe. TIME!

Excellent, mostly forgotten band. The third album Stress City was a frequent visitor to my turntable for quite a while after I first found a perfect copy in a bargain bin about 10 years ago.

Nice Strong Post! Saw these guys open for Butthole Surfers at the Cat Club in NYC back in '87. Killer set, very heavy with no boho pretense.

Got any stuff (from any era) that features *heavily* processed (aka tricked out w/ guitar pedals) vocals? I don't just mean echo, but 100% wet flange/phasing, pitch shifting, wah-wah, Memory Man feedback, etc. Not so much the purely experimental (ie LsGA) but when theyre woven into a "song"...
